What a great opportunity we have to come alongside the Sylvania Community Church in Sylvania, Ohio and That Neighborhood Church in Toledo, Ohio and assist them in building God's Kingdom together.
Sylvania Community Church
Over the past few years we have established a great relationship with Sylvania Community Church and we plan to keep that going for as long as the Lord allows. (for past work at Sylvania Community Church click here).
This year we are going to be doing some yard work around the property. Some maintenance/painting of the Church building and some interior demolition/clean-up work at the parsonage on the property.
The work day for Sylvania Community Church will be Saturday April 27th.
That Neighborhood Church - Huron Street Project
At the end of 2018 Mark and Shelley Bartlett of That Neighborhood Church purchased a house only a few blocks from the church. This house will be a big part of the churches ministry in reaching teens in the community. Mark and Shelly have been part of That Neighborhood Church since the beginning in October 2010 serving as youth leaders. Mark works a full time job and Shelly is employed at That Neighborhood Church as the Youth Director and Ministry Development Director.
Shelly says, “We learned early on in our ministry that it is impossible to integrate into a neighborhood when we only spend 5 hours a week with students and then go home. We have always wanted to strengthen our ministry by being part of our North Toledo neighborhood, living side by side with our students and being present daily. The best way to do this is to move here!” In addition to strengthening the overall youth outreach in the North Toledo neighborhood, the Bartlett’s hope is to serve another dire need in the inner city of Toledo. Youth homelessness.
In July 2017, the Toledo Blade reported that Toledo Public Schools has the highest number of students classified as homeless in Ohio, according to data compiled by the Ohio Department of Education. The article states that student homelessness has increased 37% over the last 3 years.
The Bartlett’s Huron Street Home will have extra bedrooms for youth from the church who have no place to go. Not only will The Bartlett’s provide a bed and safe place to sleep, but the students will be integrated into a healthy family living with a warm clean home, food every day, and clean clothes. Basic needs that most of us take for granted.
Our partnership with That Neighborhood Church and The Bartlett’s is one more piece of the puzzle in reaching our neighbors and our community for Christ. Please consider being a part of this story by volunteering or donating funds for this project.
A lot of work needs to be done to the home before it can be occupied. The first floor had a small fire so most of the plaster needs to be removed all the way to the studs. There is also a bathroom in the house that has to be completely stripped down to the studs including the flooring.
Work at the house will begin in March. We may need a few Saturdays to complete the demolition. Scheduled work days are Saturday March 2nd, Saturday March 9th and Saturday March 16th if needed.
We added some more work days for the Huron Street Project.
Your help is needed Saturday April 13 and Saturday April 27.
