This year, God has led the Great Lakes District Alliance Men to the Sylvania Alliance Church in Sylvania, Ohio.
The Pastor who is new to the church, and our District, is Reverend Donald Smith and his wife Joyce. In December 2015 we met with Pastor Smith and he explained his current situation to us.
The Sylvania Alliance church is able to accommodate approximately 140 people; yet the current attendance is only about 14 people. Due to the demographics of the church and the community it resides in, it is going to be very difficult for this church to reach out to the people of this community. This weighs heavy on Rev. Smith’s heart, but, we know nothing is impossible with God.
The church, its property and the parsonage next door are also in need of some minor repairs. Drywall repair is needed in both the parsonage and the church. The inside and outside of the parsonage needs to be cleaned, and painted and the basement needs to be completely gutted, cleaned and painted.
Each dollar donated will help us tackle more projects.
The Board of Directors of the Great Lakes District Alliance Men are confident that this is where God wants us to be this year. We are so confident that we have donated $3000.00 from our own General Fund to Sylvania Alliance Church for the “Beulah (Beach) on the Road” ministry to come out to their church to do a week long VBS; which brings us to another problem. Beulah on the road requires a minimum of 80 kids registered for that week. Therefore, we will be organizing a day this summer to send teams out into the surrounding communities to distribute flyers and personally invite kids to this event.
We have a great fundraiser for each youth group to help them go to Life 2016. The Board of Directors, of the Great Lakes District Alliance Men, has agreed to donate $500 to go towards LIFE 2016 for any 4 different youth groups in our district that agrees to help us this year with the Sylvania Alliance Church.
#1 Pray. First and foremost we need prayer. We need this project to be totally submersed in prayer. Prayer for Pastor Donald Smith and the Sylvania Alliance Church. Prayer for the right amount of funds to be donated to IMPACT that we may be able to do the work God wants us to do. Prayer for the people of our district churches to band together and assist Sylvania this spring and summer in the work that will be needed.
#2 Give. We need people to start donating as soon as possible. We need to collect a good portion of the donations by the end of March so we can know how to plan our work days in April and May.
#3 Go. We need men, women, and children to set aside some time and come out on the work days in April and May and then again in the end of July for flyer distribution. We especially need some men who are skilled in drywall repair and installation.
