In September of 2014 the Great Lakes District Alliance Men was contacted by Tabernacle of Praise, an Alliance Church in Toledo, Ohio, led by Rev. Charles Allen.
Tabernacle of Praise had some issues with their boiler heating system to the point that it had broken down completely. They were able to make due, but once the temperatures outside started to drop, they found themselves worshiping in a cold sanctuary. When an expert came out to look at the system they were told that it would need a total overhaul at a cost of $7500.00.
Tabernacle of Praise is very much an inner-city focused church and therefore finances are not super strong. That being said, God is doing some amazing things at that church and using Rev. Allen and his wife Robin in some powerful ways. The church family has grown at least threefold since Rev. Allen began there almost a year ago.
The Board of Directors of the Great Lakes District Alliance Men, decided to make Tabernacle of Praise the IMPACT Ministry for 2015. We had an immediate need, that is to get the boiler system up and running as soon as possible, but we didn't want to stop there. We wanted to go over and above; we wanted to make an IMPACT, in the church and in the community. There were 3 Phases to this ministry project.
PHASE 1
We need to raise enough money immediately to rebuild the boiler heating system at Tabernacle of Praise.
PHASE 2
By April 1st, 2015 we wanted to raise additional funds to fix several leaks in the roof, remodel and update the interior of the church, including new flooring, walls, paint and furnishings as well as the exterior of the church including the building and the grounds.
PHASE 3
In April of 2015, once we determined how much money/resources we have to work with, we put together work/ministry teams. These teams worked throughout the spring/summer on various work projects.
We were able to raise $9861.00. Praise God ! With these funds we were able to pay for the repairs to the boiler system and get it working properly again. Also, the repairs ended up not costing as much as we were previously quoted giving us some extra funds to take care of additional projects.. We held 2 official work dates on May 23rd and June 6th. On May 23rd, we had 18 volunteers and on June 6th , we had 23 volunteers. Some volunteers had also shown up June 13th to finish up some of the leftover small stuff. Much of the work consisted of painting the exterior of the church, landscaping (we removed 4 trailer loads of brush), new drywall in the foyer and painting the sanctuary walls. In July we were able to pay for a roof contractor to repair and seal areas of the roof where leaks were found. Still having some available funds we were able to purchase and pay for the installation of new flooring in the foyer and down the hallway of the church in August.
